Overseas Chinese media visited Ji’an, Jiangxi Province, the -Jiangnan Wang County– the thousand-year-old Luling culture has a new charm

On October 19, the China News Service reported from Ji’an, Jiangxi Province, highlighting an exciting exploration of the rich cultural heritage of the region by overseas Chinese media. On the afternoon of October 18, over 20 journalists and editors from 18 countries and regions gathered at the Jizhou Celadon Site Park in Ji’an County to engage in the art of ceramic making, experiencing firsthand the traditional craftsmanship.

The visiting media professionals took part in activities like shaping and refining pottery, embracing the spirit of Ji’an’s long-standing ceramic culture. During their visit, they toured multiple cultural landmarks, including the Hoh River Dream Back to Luling Scenic Area, the Ji’an Chinese Jinshi Culture Park, and Yang Wanli Poetry and Painting Town, immersing themselves in the local thousand-year-old Luling culture.

One notable participant was Zhu Xinea, the deputy president of Egypt’s “China Daily,” who diligently documented the exhibits in the Jizhou Celadon Museum. Hailing from Jingdezhen, known as the “Porcelain Capital,” she expressed a deep interest in ceramics, stating, “The design and production of Jizhou celadon were profoundly influenced by the Luling culture, continually evolving and thriving through generations.”

Ji’an, historically known as Luling, is often celebrated as a “land of literary integrity.” The region has a diverse history of scholarly achievement, with figures like Ouyang Xiu, Wen Tianxiang, and Yang Wanli—luminary scholars whose contributions have become legendary. Their legacies illustrate Ji’an’s significant position in China’s educational and cultural landscape.

The Ji’an Chinese Jinshi Culture Park, the only cultural park in China dedicated to the imperial examination system, captures attention with its well-planned layout that includes the Jinshi Museum. Upon entering the park, Brazil’s Barão de Mauá News Agency Vice President, Yan Jia, remarked, “Ji’an is a ‘prolific place’ for ancient Jinshi scholars.” She emphasized the importance of the imperial examination system as a vital talent selection method in Chinese history and expressed her desire to leverage multimedia outreach to share Luling culture with Brazilian audiences.

At Yang Wanli Poetry and Painting Town, the group joined in reciting the celebrated poem “Xiao Chi” by the Song Dynasty poet Yang Wanli, further connecting with the essence of Luling’s literary tradition. The town aims to create an immersive environment that harmonizes ancient poetic themes with the picturesque landscape, inviting visitors to experience the beauty of nature and culture intertwined.

Hong Kong Chinese Tourism Press editor, Cao Lingzhi, reflected on the significance of this experience, stating, “I learned about Yang Wanli’s poetry during my childhood, but it was through this visit that I discovered he is from Ji’an. I hope to convey more about the Luling culture through this coverage.”

This immersion was part of the “Walk in China, Report on China” event organized by the China News Service, the World Chinese Media Cooperation Alliance, and the Jiangxi International Communication Center, which took place from October 13 to 19, showcasing a collective effort to explore and report on the cultural richness of Jiangxi Province.
