New York is positive and will advance to the playoffs

On the evening of September 17, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the New York Mets, part of the National League East, hosted a vibrant crowd of 24,932 fans at Citi Field in Queens, New York. The Mets showcased their offensive prowess, racking up 14 hits and launching three home runs to secure a commanding 10-1 victory over the Washington Nationals, marking their 83rd win of the season in their 151st game.

The Mets are riding a wave of momentum, having won 12 of their last 13 games since September 1, currently on a three-game winning streak.

The Mets’ playoff prospects have brightened as well, especially after the Atlanta Braves fell to the Cincinnati Reds on the same night, making their chase for a National League wild card spot look more promising.

Last season, the Mets finished with a record of 75 wins and 87 losses, but this season, as of September 19, they boast an improved record of 84 wins and 68 losses.

Since the 2019 season, the Mets have dominated their home matchups against the Nationals, holding a record of 33 wins to just 12 losses.

In another impressive display, the Mets shut out the Nationals 10-0 on the evening of September 18.

Peter Alonso, the team’s 29-year-old first baseman, took the third spot in the batting order on September 17. Over his last five games against the Phillies and Nationals, he has hit safely in each appearance, including two home runs. In this particular game, Alonso stepped up to the plate five times, hitting a single, a double, and a home run to left-center field, contributing two runs and five RBIs.

Alonso has been a consistent force this season, playing in every game and delivering 33 home runs, following an impressive total of 46 home runs last season.
