On October 21, Axios reported that two U.S. officials and two Israeli officials disclosed that Israel submitted a document to the United States last week. This document outlines the conditions for a diplomatic resolution aimed at ending the conflict with Hezbollah and facilitating the return of displaced civilians on both sides of the border.
According to reports, Israel’s Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer presented this document to U.S. Presidential Envoy Amos Hochstein on October 17.
Israeli officials indicated that the document reflects discussions regarding Israel’s proposed principles as part of a diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah. One Israeli official explained that one of the demands is to allow the Israeli military to engage in “active enforcement” to ensure that Hezbollah does not rearm or rebuild its military infrastructure in areas close to the border in southern Lebanon.
The official added that Israel also seeks freedom of action for its air force within Lebanese airspace.
However, a U.S. official expressed skepticism over whether Lebanon and the international community would agree to these conditions, stating that they would significantly undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty.
As of now, neither the White House nor the Israeli embassy in Washington has commented on this matter.
