On the 22nd, a report from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate revealed that the case involving Peng Guofu, former member of the Standing Committee and Deputy Director of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress, has reached its conclusion following an investigation by the National Supervisory Commission for allegations of bribery. This case has been designated to the First Procuratorate of Hainan Province for prosecution. Recently, the First Procuratorate of Hainan has filed formal charges with the Hainan First Intermediate People’s Court.
During the prosecution review process, the procuratorial authorities informed the defendant, Peng Guofu, of his legal rights and conducted an inquiry, taking into account the opinions of his defense counsel. The prosecution has charged Peng Guofu with leveraging his positions as Party Secretary of Xiangtan University, Secretary of the Huaihua Municipal Party Committee in Hunan, Vice Chairman of the Hunan Provincial Political Consultative Conference, and Deputy Director of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress to gain illicit benefits for others and unlawfully accept substantial sums of money, warranting criminal liability for bribery under the law.
