North Korea’s aid to Russia in war sparks controversy; South Korea summons Russian ambassador to -express regret-

On October 21, South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Georgy Zinoviev, the Russian ambassador to South Korea, to express concerns over North Korea’s involvement in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This meeting, led by First Deputy Minister Kim Hong-kyun, marked a significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

In a brief statement to the press, Zinoviev confirmed his meeting with Kim but declined to comment further on the discussions.

Last week, South Korean intelligence reports indicated that North Korea had dispatched 1,500 soldiers to Russia’s Far East for training related to the war in Ukraine, with intentions to send additional troops in the future. This development has raised alarms within the South Korean government regarding the implications for regional stability.
