Ms. Hu Huixia received the Community Contribution Award at the National Organization for Women’s Philadelphia Chapter Annual Awards Ceremony

During an interview at the Annual Philadelphia NOW Award Luncheon held at the Felt Factory on October 6, we spoke with Grace Kong, the Director of the Chinese Department at Echelon Care & Rehabilitation Center and President of the Asian American Women’s Coalition (AAWC). She was honored with a Community Contribution Award along with three other exemplary women: Annette Collier, Rue Landau, and Joann Bell.

Grace expressed her heartfelt gratitude for being nominated for this special award by Emily Wang, a member of the AAWC. She highlighted their longstanding partnership in empowering Asian women within the community, stating, “I truly appreciate the recognition from all members of AAWC for the work we do, along with all the kind words and congratulations I’ve received.”

Grace also thanked Cecilia Moy Yep, founder of the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC), and Judge Ida Chen for their unwavering contributions and guidance, which laid a solid foundation for the AAWC’s development. She acknowledged the enormous efforts of past presidents, vice presidents, members, board members, and advisory committee members, crediting their hard work for AAWC’s current success and expressing pride in their collective achievements.

Reflecting on her journey, Grace mentioned how fortunate she feels to have fought alongside AAWC members, stating, “I’ve learned so much from each of them over the years. This award should actually be shared with every board member of AAWC; I congratulate you all—you also deserve this honor.”

She extended her appreciation to veteran member Chen Zi for her continued support, including the beautiful flowers and gifts received. Grace also recognized the full-page congratulatory advertisement from Echelon Care & Rehabilitation Center and thanked event director Janine for her presence and support.

Lastly, Grace expressed her deep gratitude to her two children, Christina and Brian, for their support. “They make me so proud to be their mother, and I feel incredibly lucky to have them. I cherish this moment given by Philly NOW and will forever hold this award close to my heart.”
