At the opening ceremony of the 2024 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference on October 17, Jin Zhuanglong, the Minister of Industry and Information Technology of China, announced plans to develop a new strategy for the intelligent connected vehicle industry. He emphasized the commitment to a collaborative approach between vehicles and infrastructure, as well as a combined development of hardware and software, with the aim of accelerating China’s transformation into a major automotive nation.
Jin pointed out that the automotive industry is rapidly transitioning towards electric, connected, and intelligent technologies, becoming a crucial driver for new industrialization and the development of advanced productivity. The Ministry will focus on creating a modern development plan for intelligent connected vehicles that adheres to the principles of cooperation between vehicles and infrastructure, as well as a hardware-software integration approach.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of fostering innovative collaborations across the automotive, electronics, and software sectors, encouraging the creation of shared platforms for autonomous driving data and model training. He called for an expansion of application scenarios, particularly through the “vehicle-road-cloud integration” pilot projects, with an objective to standardize and unify connected infrastructure and increase the installation rates of connected vehicle terminals.
Moreover, Jin discussed the need to enhance regulatory frameworks by revising laws related to road traffic safety and insurance, and establishing robust oversight for high-level autonomous driving. This includes advancing standards for functional safety, cybersecurity, and data protection. He also emphasized deepening international cooperation to integrate into the global industrial ecosystem and to promote collaboration on global standards and regulations, thus fostering a conducive environment for the global development of the industry.
During the conference, attendees were introduced to the top ten global breakthroughs in intelligent connected vehicles, along with major technological trends and the conference consensus. An action declaration focused on “vehicle-road-cloud integration” was also announced, showcasing numerous innovative achievements.
In conjunction with the conference, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade’s Mechanical Industry Branch is organizing the China International New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicle Exhibition. This event features static product displays, intelligent driving competitions, and autonomous driving experience sessions, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the advancements of smart and connected technologies within the industry.
