Make the operation of China-Europe trains more stable and efficient

At the Yiwu railway port in Zhejiang, a steady procession of trucks busily unloads cargo, creating a vibrant scene filled with arrivals, lifting operations, and departures. Among the dedicated workforce navigating through a “sea” of containers is Zhu Linfeng, a 31-year-old grassroots member of the Yiwu International Land Port Group. He plays an essential role in overseeing the container loading and unloading operations.

Zhu shared insights about the operations, saying, “We currently have four crane operators working in shifts, each handling an average of 500 to 600 containers during their eight-hour shifts. On particularly busy days, we can manage around 1,000 containers.” He noted that these containers are primarily shipped to countries such as Spain, Germany, and Russia. After trucks arrive and are sealed, drivers first place the containers on the ground, awaiting customs instructions before lifting them onto flatbed trucks. They then transport the containers to the gantry crane for loading onto the China-Europe Railway Express for export.

The seamless stacking of containers at the port significantly benefits from an intelligent yard management system, overseen by Wang Jiacheng, another young party member who is setting an example for his peers. Wang has spearheaded visits to 25 logistics companies within the park, gathering feedback to contribute to the development of this intelligent management system.

“Truck drivers can now make advance reservations for ‘instant drop-off’ of containers and even obtain position numbers online, which makes the unloading process incredibly convenient,” Wang explained. He highlighted that the system has implemented digital smart management for drop-off and transfer operations, boosting efficiency. Thanks to this innovation, the time for vehicle passage has dropped from 30 minutes to under 5 minutes, enhancing operational efficiency by over 30%.

In recent years, following the guidance of the Yiwu Municipal Organization Department, the Yiwu Land Port Group has prioritized leadership development by strengthening training for young professionals. By placing young leaders in grassroots positions, they gain valuable experience that enhances the port’s capabilities. Since the start of 2024, this initiative has supported the shipment of over 180,000 standard containers via the China-Europe Railway Express (Yiwu) and combined sea-rail transport.

Additionally, the Yiwu Land Port Group has been working closely with customs and railway authorities to create a collaborative platform for party development across various sectors. This initiative aims to improve the business environment, ensuring that the operations of the China-Europe Railway Express (Yiwu) remain stable and efficient. They have also organized regular activities to assist businesses in overcoming challenges, successfully resolving 35 business issues with a perfect resolution rate since the beginning of 2024.
