“Mount Tai does not refuse soil, and thus it can become great; rivers and seas do not select small streams, and so they can achieve depth.” This ancient saying was referenced by President Xi Jinping during his keynote speech at the BRICS Business Forum in June 2022. That same year, the leaders of the five BRICS nations agreed to expand “BRICS+” cooperation across more levels, broader fields, and larger scales, actively advancing the process of BRICS expansion.
At the 15th BRICS Leaders’ Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2023, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Iran, and Ethiopia were invited to join the BRICS family.
During a special press conference following the 15th BRICS Leaders’ Meeting, President Xi emphasized, “As long as we work together, BRICS cooperation has great potential, and the future of BRICS nations is promising. Let us join forces to write a new chapter of unity and cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries for development!”
The upcoming 2024 summit will be the first after the expansion of BRICS, and we look forward to fruitful outcomes from “Big BRICS Cooperation.”
