On October 27, the eighth edition of the “Colorful Guizhou” Bicycle League finals took place in Yuping, Guizhou Province, marking a successful conclusion to the 2024 series. This year’s event, hosted in the Dong Autonomous County of Yuping, saw a remarkable turnout, with 1,805 cycling enthusiasts from across China coming together to celebrate their shared passion for biking.
The finals spanned two days and featured four exciting events: a road circuit race, a mountain cross-country race, a downhill race, and a kids’ balance bike competition. The road circuit race on October 26 kicked off the competition, taking place on a 10-kilometer loop through the heart of the city. This urban race not only allowed the local residents to witness the skills of riders from various regions up close but also provided them with a thrilling experience of the speed and excitement of competitive cycling. Additionally, the “Colorful Guizhou” children’s balance bike series and an outdoor bicycle exhibition attracted large crowds of spectators.
On October 27, participants tackled the mountain cross-country race over a specialized 4-kilometer track designed to the high standards set by the International Cycling Union and the Chinese Cycling Association. The challenging terrain, featuring the natural backdrop of camellia hills, seamlessly combined elements of both mountain cross-country and downhill races, with lengths of 4.8 kilometers and 1.5 kilometers, respectively. The course included several technical challenge points, testing the athletes’ endurance, physical fitness, and technical skills, ultimately showcasing a blend of technical prowess and athleticism.
Yuping, the host of this event, has leveraged its regional advantages in recent years to promote the development of its sports industry through initiatives such as hosting cycling events and establishing the “Invitation to Camellia Spring” brand. These efforts not only boost local sports but also highlight the area’s cultural heritage, unique geography, and ethnic diversity.
As the top tier points-based league in Guizhou, the “Colorful Guizhou” Bicycle League has emerged as a flagship event for cycling in the province and throughout China, significantly advancing the progress of local competitions and contributing to the vibrant growth of cycling as a sport in the country.
