Yunnan police’s -Summer Operation- recovered more than 790 million yuan in economic losses

On October 16, the Public Security Department of Yunnan Province held a press conference in Kunming to discuss the summer security operation launched on June 24 this year. Since its initiation, this campaign has successfully resolved over 71,000 conflicts, seized 2.2 tons of various drugs, investigated more than 2,200 economic crime cases, and recovered over 790 million yuan in economic losses.

The summer operation, organized at a national level, aims to combat prominent criminal activities, rectify social disorder, and comprehensively address various risks and hazards to purify the social environment. Zhou Jianzhong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Deputy Director of the Yunnan Public Security Department, revealed that since the start of the operation, efforts have been made to simultaneously promote various measures including attack, prevention, management, control, resolution, and service. The total number of cases solved and the number of people penalized have increased by 25.6% and 17.1%, respectively, compared to the previous period. Additionally, reported criminal and public security incidents have decreased by 17.2% and 5.1%. The department has investigated 73,000 conflicts and resolved 71,000 of them, achieving a resolution rate of 97.2%, while also addressing over 60,000 safety hazards.

The Yunnan police have taken a strong stance against crime, launching a series of targeted campaigns against 65 high-profile, cross-regional cases with extensive implications. They have solved 661 cases, dismantled 119 criminal gangs, and apprehended over 8,000 individuals. The department continues its ongoing fight against organized crime, investigating three groups of 41 people and addressing 490 cases of various violent crimes involving 1,900 suspects.

The campaign against drugs remains a priority, with 790 drug-related criminal cases being resolved, 804 suspects arrested, and over 5,900 drug users dealt with. A total of 2.2 tons of drugs have been seized, and over 1,200 tons of precursor chemicals have been intercepted. The department has also intensified efforts to tackle cross-border crimes, investigating over 1,300 cases related to border management, arresting 1,500 smuggled individuals, and uncovering 811 smuggling cases worth over 61 million yuan, while also repatriating 91 undocumented foreign nationals.

Yunnan, located in the southwest border region of China, has emerged as a key battleground against telecom and internet fraud. Li Li, a member of the Party committee and deputy director of the Yunnan Public Security Department, emphasized the ongoing high-pressure approach against telecom fraud. By closely monitoring the underlying crime networks, launching major operations, targeting overseas fraud dens, and enhancing cross-border law enforcement, Yunnan has successfully reduced instances of telecom fraud. From January to September this year, the number of reported fraud cases and the losses incurred by citizens diminished by 9.24% and 16.42%, respectively, with a remarkable 67.17% decline in major fraud cases.

Moving forward, Yunnan police are committed to maintaining pressure on prominent criminal activities, fortifying border security, resolving social disorder, and advancing a comprehensive, technology-driven public security framework to ensure the stability and safety of society at large.
