On October 20, 2024, at 9:54 AM, the Jiangyin Public Security Bureau in Jiangsu Province received a report from the public regarding suspected baby trafficking. Promptly, police officers were dispatched to the scene, where they arrested a 22-year-old male suspect, identified as Su.
During the investigation, Su admitted to acting as a middleman on an online platform, facilitating the illegal sale of infants for personal gain.
The case began on October 6, 2024, when an 18-year-old woman, identified as Li, who had come to Jiangyin for work, gave birth to a son. Unable to care for the child, she turned to her cousin’s husband, Xu, who posted a message online seeking an adopter. Su spotted this post and connected with a couple in need of adoption from another province. On the evening of October 19, they conducted the transaction in person in Jiangyin.
The police quickly established a special task force that traveled to the couple’s home province, where, with the assistance of local law enforcement, they apprehended the buyers and successfully rescued the baby. All suspects involved have been taken into custody, and further investigations are ongoing to uncover any criminal links in other regions.
The police have reiterated their “zero tolerance” policy toward crimes that infringe on the rights of women and children, pledging to rigorously enforce the law to ensure their safety and well-being.
