The future star of the international tennis world in Chengdu realizes the -giant panda dream– -Cuteer than the one on the screen!-

On October 15, in Chengdu, the excitement was palpable as players and coaches participating in the 2024 International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Juniors Year-End Finals had their unforgettable encounter with giant pandas at the Chengdu Panda Base. “I finally saw a real giant panda!” exclaimed one participant. Another added, “They’re even cuter in person than on screen!”

With the finals set to take place from October 16 to 20, Chengdu is buzzing as it prepares to host one of the tennis circuit’s three premier year-end championships. Known as the “cradle of world champions,” this event has launched many rising stars into the spotlight. To help the young athletes unwind before the competition, the organizing committee arranged a special “Panda Tour.”

“As the announcer shared insights about the pandas’ behaviors and conservation efforts, the players and coaches were captivated,” said a spokesperson from the event. The adorable antics of the pandas prompted frequent gasps of delight, with many participants eagerly capturing the moments on their phones.

Romanian player Luca Pritza shared his thoughts after seeing a panda for the first time in person: “They’re so cute! The pandas really helped ease my fatigue from the long flight.” He also noted, “Chengdu is such an interesting and cool city.”

In addition to snapping photos, the players couldn’t resist indulging in some shopping. British player Mika Stojsavljevic treated himself to a pair of panda earrings and picked out fluffy panda toys and cute fridge magnets for his family. “The experience here is fantastic—it’s just amazing!” Mika exclaimed, reflecting the joyful atmosphere surrounding this unique blend of sports and wildlife.
