Tragic news has emerged regarding Liam Payne, a member of the globally renowned boy band One Direction. On October 16, Payne fell from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, leading to multiple injuries and internal bleeding. Argentine authorities have indicated that drugs were found within his accommodation.
According to reports from Reuter, the official autopsy details released by the Argentine prosecutor’s office revealed that the coroner identified 25 injuries consistent with a fall from a height, including fatal head trauma and both internal and external bleeding.
Investigators stated that there is currently no evidence suggesting third-party involvement. Nonetheless, they are treating this case as a “suspicious death” as a procedural measure.
“In all indications, the musician fell alone and was reportedly experiencing some sort of episode due to substance abuse at the time of the incident,” the prosecutor’s office commented.
Furthermore, authorities shared that police investigating the scene discovered drugs that appeared to be a mix of narcotics and alcohol. They are awaiting expert confirmation on the substances and also noted several damaged items throughout the room.
Earlier, law enforcement reported that upon entering the room following Payne’s death, they found the space “in disarray,” with various items smashed and drugs scattered.
While the exact cause of death remains unclear, Liam Payne had openly discussed his struggles with mental health and his reliance on alcohol to cope with the pressures of fame.
Within his hotel room, police uncovered a whiskey bottle, a lighter, and a mobile phone, all of which have been processed for fingerprints. Additionally, they found over-the-counter medications, energy packs, and the anti-anxiety drug Clonazepam.
In a public statement, officers said, “The moment we entered the room, it was evident that it was chaotic, with numerous items destroyed.” They noted that further fingerprints and evidence are being analyzed in the lab, and among the findings were a notebook and a passport.
Audio obtained from Buenos Aires security services reveals that prior to Liam Payne’s fall, a hotel employee had called emergency services for assistance, reporting that a guest was destroying the room and appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The hotel staff member stated during the 911 call: “We have a guest who is using drugs and drinking heavily…When he is sober, he breaks things; he wrecked the entire room. We need someone to come over.”
“We urgently need someone to assist because I’m unsure if this guest’s life is in danger. He is staying in a room with a balcony, and we are quite concerned he might do something that threatens his own life.”
