On October 12, Haikou resident Huang Siyu and her friends visited Pobo Road specifically to take photos with the vibrant anime and gaming murals that have recently popped up in the area. “Walking down Pobo Road feels like I’ve traveled back to my childhood,” Huang remarked, clearly excited about the nostalgic experience.
The eye-catching murals, featuring iconic characters like giant Mario, characters from the game “Black Myth: Wukong,” and Totoro, have become a popular attraction, drawing many locals eager to capture the moment. As visitors stroll along Pobo Road, they’re greeted by these larger-than-life designs, evoking a wave of fond memories from the world of anime and gaming.
“I felt like I was stepping into a two-dimensional world,” Huang explained, expressing how these artworks allowed her to connect with her beloved characters. “It’s as if I was actually battling and playing alongside them.”
Another resident, Liang Kaizhi, visited Pobo Road with a clear favorite in mind—the Iron Man mural. “Seeing Iron Man felt like reuniting with an old friend after so many years,” he shared, a smile spreading across his face. “It brought me a lot of joy.”
With more locals exploring these mural-filled streets, it’s evident that Pobo Road has become a beloved spot for both nostalgia and creativity in Haikou.
