President Biden announced a new $425 million aid package for Ukraine’s military during a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The White House stated that the conversation focused on enhancing security assistance efforts for Ukraine.
According to reports from Reuters and AFP, the White House’s announcement detailed that the security aid package includes air defense capabilities, air-to-ground munitions, armored vehicles, and critical ammunition.
Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude on the messaging platform Telegram, thanking Biden, the U.S. Congress, and the American people for the new military aid. He noted that he discussed a five-point “Victory Plan” for Ukraine with President Biden and has submitted this plan to Congress.
However, the White House did not address whether a decision has been made regarding Ukraine’s request to launch Western-made long-range ballistic missiles deep into Russian territory. Biden has been hesitant to approve such actions thus far.
As Biden prepares for a whirlwind visit to Germany, this phone call with Zelenskyy underscores that the Ukrainian issue will be a significant topic during his trip.
